Boston City Charter changes are rejected by voters.

Among the proposals that are defeated are changes in how the Boston City Council and Boston School Committee are elected, and that that would have transformed the city’s preliminary election from partisan to non-partisan and given the mayor authority over the school budget. According to the Boston Globe, these latter changes would have given “political immortality” to Mayor Kevin White or any of his successors.
